A Shout Out

A Shout Out

As a business owner and as a parent I have to give a shout out to a local business called Ultimate Hockey and Skate located in West Kelowna, British Columbia.  My two young girls are in ringette and the new season is starting.

Ultimate Hockey and Skate opened their doors this weekend and the customer service we received was amazing!!! The prices are reasonable and the equipment is exceptional. They took the time to fit my daughters properly in their skates and in their helmets and they even taped their sticks. The owners took the time to answer all our questions and gave us options regarding the equipment we didn't even know existed.

Their website is http://ultimatehockeyandskate.ca/ check them out or go visit them for all your hockey and skating needs!

Moreover, thank you for exceptional customer service!!!! Stay Amazing!!!

The Importance of Staging Your Home To Sell

As a recent home seller and real estate agent I can tell you that staging is so important when selling your home. The number one rule I have found is that you have to separate your emotional attachment to the home and refer to is as a house that you are selling. Remember you are selling the house not the items that are in the home.

I found the best way to separate yourself from the house is to ask for a separate opinion. When looking to stage your home it is wise to find someone that is well educated on the subject. A company that has been in the business for awhile will know what is trending, and what needs to be accomplished to get the job done properly.

Before we put our home on the market it wasn't staged and it was not well received. After it was staged it was sold in a week. A lot of factors come into play when selling a home, pricing it right being the most important, but I firmly believe that staging helped in the process.

An exceptional home stagger will create an environment that will allow the buyers to envision themselves living in the home. They will arrange furniture in such a way as to allow the space to maximized, and declutter and decorate the home that it will appeal to the masses.

Prep This House is an amazing company located in the Okanagan that can help you on your way to your new home. Check them out at http://www.prepthishouse.com.

Back to School Whoop Whoop!

With summer ending around the corner out comes the school supply checklist and checking the calendar to see when the kids actually go back to school. Unless you are super parent and already know!

Organize a space for homework, a desk is a great way for children to take ownership of their homework and pride in their own space.
Declutter the bedrooms!!! I have said it before I will say it again, clean rooms make for better sleeps!
Before your children go to bed and before you go to work have the lunches and the clothes ready to go and the homework packed up ready to go. Trust me, the mornings become less stressful when they don't have to look for eveything. They will also sleep better knowing they have everything ready for the morning.
Lists are a great way to acknowledge all the work they have accomplished. Set goals of a break once a certain amount of homework is done on the list.

Assign hangers for your children's coats and if you have the room a small tupperware bin for them to put their phones, keys and other small items for the night.
Encourage healthy snacks, they may not put it in their lunch but i guarantee if you sneak an apple in they will eat it!

Lastly, Get the house clean a couple days before that way you can concentrate on getting their school supplies, clothes, and haircuts.

Camping Organization

You have decided to go camping and then your mind starts racing of all the items you need to bring. Start with a list!

1. Food
Breakfast, Snacks, Lunch, Supper I like to even pre-plan each meal, and don't forget your pet food and dishes!
2. Clothing
Lay out the suitcases or bags in the living room, make a list for your kids and have them gather their clothes, do not forget hats!
3. Toiletries (baby wipes rock on camping trips)
4. Games
5. First Aid Kit
6. Kitchen supplies
7. Electronics  - extra batteries never hurt, flashlights
8. Maps
9. Pillows/Blankets/Chairs
10. Cleaning supplies

You can search "camping lists" and print off many more detailed versions to suit your needs.

Whether you are tenting or in a RV. Tupperware bins, tupperware bins, tupperware bins.... are your best friend! Group like items and label! Impromptu camping trips sometimes happen but if everything is already stored in tupperware bins, a grab and go trip can be exciting. Additionally,  extra water containers are a fabulous idea.

When you get to your destination. Take a walk with your children, become familar with the area. Make stations as you unpack and reinforce that items be put away right after using the item.

Every morning and evening do a ten second tidy! Assign everyone a space to clean and switch it up daily so it is "fair" to the kids. You can make a game out it and award a prize for the fastest cleaning job.

I also like to purchase notebooks from the dollar store and the kids can journal their experiences that summer. It provides great quiet time and helps them settle down for the evening.

A little bit of organizing and pre-planning goes a long way to make the camping trip a lot less stressful. Have fun and stay safe!

Benefits of Cleaning with Essential Oils

Essential oils are a natural alternative  in cleaning.  The majority of essential oils possess the properties effective in cleaning, although some are more useful than others. Some are also more toxic so it is important to know the properties of each individual oil, its suitability for cleaning and any cautions for use.

Essential oils are 100% naturally occurring plant products. These liquids are found in plants such as flowers, trees and shrubs. They have been used in the past medicinally, specifically for aromatherapy, a form of alternative medicine used to effect a person's mood or health. Thus, they can be used to effectively clean the home while providing these additional therapeutic benefits. If you don't believe aromatherapy works, you'll still enjoy the pleasant fragrance given off by essential oils. Used in cleaning, essential oils also provide antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral and antiseptic qualities to homemade cleaners, though these properties occur in different combinations in the different types of essential oils.

In 1989, a study published in the "Journal of Horticultural Science," found that savory and tarragon essential oils were capable of prohibiting the development of many types of bacteria that threatened health.

Some oils include:

Cinnimon:  Antiseptic Properties; Stimulant: Excellent for Exhausted states & Depression

Clove:  Antiseptic & Disinfectant Properties; A Stimulant

Lavender: Sweet, Floral Scent; Antiseptic & Antiviral Properties; A Bacteriacide; Antidepressant, Decongestant, Deodorant, Detoxicant.

Citrus:  Antiseptic and Disinfectant Properties; Antidepressant; Bacteriacide.

Eucalyptus:  Antiseptic & Antiviral Properties; Bacteriacide; Decongestant & Deodorant; Has a cooling effect on emotions and boosts concentration.

Rosemary: Antiseptic Properties; Antidepressant & Stimulant; A memory aide.

Peppermint: Antiseptic Properties; Decongestant & Stimulant; Excellent for mental fatigue, depression & has an affect on asthma.

Teatree: Antibiotic, Antiseptic & Antiviral Properties; Bacteriacide; Stimulant.

Clary Sage:  Antiseptic Properties; Deodorant; Encourages well-being and an excellent pick me up for the nerves.

Dusting Divas Cleaning Inc. has cleaning products that contain essential oils and will use them in your home or business by request. Contact us today for more information at 250-469-2353 or at our email dustingdivasinc@gmail.com . You can also check out our website at http://www.dustingdivas.net.

A Clean Home Leads to a Cleaner Attitude

I know you all know what I am talking about... The moment you finish cleaning your home, you sit down, look around and it one more thing off your checklist of things to accomplish for the day. You also wonder what else you could of done with the four hours that just flew by.... yes it probably takes 4 hours to REALLY clean a home. But then something happens... you start to look around and actually notice your HOME, which previous was deemed "the house" I have to clean. You take ownership of your home again.

I am almost positive there are studies out there that have shown that people will have a healthier attitude when they live in a clean environment. Less cluttered lives lead to more productivity. Whether it be more time to work or hopefully more time to play. Take the kids to the park, go to the gym. Go golfing, biking, hiking, read a book in your clean cozy environment, invite a friend over for coffee.

I remember going to my physio therapist one day and I asked her what she had planned for the weekend. Her response was to finally get the house cleaning completed. She told me she was putting it off because she was so tired when she came home from work. I felt bad for her because the next couple clients asked her the same question and that was the only thing she on her mind.

My girlfriends and I alway text each other when we have complete cleaning our house. The four or more hours spent cleaning.... It is like a right of passage, a bragging glory that our house is clean, our wash is done we finally have time to do something else for the half a day left.

However, we also recognize the benefits to our children, and even to our significant others. They want to keep their space a little more cleaner longer, the burden is taken off them to complete the task that has been on their mind. I also find I sleep better with less clutter. Your romance seems to sparkle just that little more because you can focus on each other and not the clutter all around. Clutter represents work, which also leads to a person thinking about other work that has to be completed.

Raise your hand if you hate coming home from holidays to a messy house! How many of us clean before we leave the house vacanted for days on end? But it is because of the work involved in cleaning it when you return after you have relaxed for so many days. Also, the happiness you receive when you walk into your home with nothing to do but a few loads of laundry.

It is one of the very reasons I started my own cleaning company. To give people the peace of mind that they can love the life they have and have the freedom to live it!

Regardless whether you choose to hire a cleaning company to clean your home, or decide to take on the task yourself (which by the way is also a good way to burn a few calories, and great for meditation, listening to your favorite tunes) a clean home leads to a cleaner attitude!
